Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contactus@elevatedgs.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Some signs that your garage door may need repair include it making unusual noises, not opening or closing smoothly, or having visible damage or wear and tear.

We provide service to the Piedmont area of NC and some parts of SC. Cities include:

Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, Huntersville, Statesville, Denver, Salisbury, Lexington, Winston Salem, Greensboro, Burlington and Chapel Hill. We also serve Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Gaffney and Greenville, SC

Yes, we offer routine maintenance services to keep your garage door functioning properly and to catch any potential issues before they become major problems.

Noises like squeaks, grinding, rattling, or banging usually indicate issues with moving parts. Common culprits include worn-out rollers, loose hardware (nuts, bolts, hinges), misaligned or dirty tracks, lack of lubrication, or sometimes failing springs. Regular lubrication and tightening can reduce noise. If the noise persists, it’s best to have a professional inspect it to avoid further damage.

It’s generally recommended to have your garage door system (door panels, springs, rollers, opener, etc.) inspected and serviced once a year. But if your door gets heavy use, or you live in a climate with extreme conditions, doing light maintenance every 6 months is even better. Early detection of issues helps prevent big breakdowns

A broken spring is a serious safety hazard because these springs are under high tension. You should stop using the door immediately and call a qualified technician. Do not attempt to replace or adjust a torsion or extension spring yourself—it can lead to severe injury.

Often yes. If just one section or panel is damaged, replacing that section may be sufficient, especially if the rest of the door is still in good shape. The downside is sometimes matching color, style, or insulation may be difficult, especially with older doors. A professional can help you assess whether panel replacement is cost-effective vs. replacing the entire door.

Signs of misalignment include:

  • The door binds, drags, or gets stuck while moving
  • One side of the door is higher or lower than the other
  • Tracks look bent, out of plumb, or are not parallel
  • Rollers don’t travel smoothly

What to do:

  • Don’t force or continue using the door (can cause damage)
  • Check for obvious loose bolts or debris
  • Call a professional to realign tracks safely, because misalignment can strain springs, rollers, opener motors, etc.

You might want to replace rather than repair if:

  • Multiple panels are damaged or severely warped.
  • Structural damage (frame, joints) is affecting safety or performance.
  • Springs, opener, rollers etc. are aging and failing frequently.
  • The door is old (often 20–30+ years), inefficient, or lacks insulation.
  • You want better aesthetics, curb appeal, energy efficiency, or to upgrade materials/features.
  • Cost of repairs is approaching or exceeding half the cost of a new door.

A professional evaluation can help you decide based on condition, cost, and your goals.

Some considerations:

  • Drive type: Chain-drive (less expensive, louder), belt-drive (quieter), screw or direct drive.
  • Horsepower: Must match door size and weight so the door moves reliably.
  • Safety features: Auto-reverse sensors, photo eyes, force sensing.
  • Remote features / connectivity: Keypads, remotes, Wi-Fi/smart phone integration.
  • Noise level: Important for garages attached to or under living spaces.
  • Warranty & brand reputation.

Choosing the right opener can improve durability, convenience, and safety.
